Highlights:

Catriona's meander up the Danube River from her starting point at Budapest was nothing short of glorious! Docking in the heart of Linz, Austria, Catriona chose a full day excursion to the Czech town of Cesky Krumlov. Hugging the banks of the Vltava river, the historic centre has remained the same since the middle ages! The large castle complex was a delight to tour through. Home to various noble clans over the centuries, their furniture and family heirlooms are now priceless museum pieces!

Passing tiny hamlets and hilltop monasteries, the cruise continued on to Passau in German Bavaria. Sitting at the confluence of three rivers, Passau was once a wealthy trading centre, now a treasure trove of art and architecture. On a ScenicFreechoice guided cycling tour Catriona marvelled at the decorative Rathouse Glockenspiel and the grand onion-domed St Stephen's Cathedral. From the town center they rode through beautiful Bavarian forests checking out some wild wood carvings and crossed the Inn river from Germany into Austria! No passport needed!

The day culminated in a five-course Italian culinary experience at Scenic Amber's fine dining restaurant, Portobello. The degustation menu used sumptuous fresh local ingredients and featured elegant wine pairings in an exclusive and intimate setting. The perfect end to another day on the Danube.
