Highlights:
After exploring the ancient treasures of Athens it was time to start the voyage aboard Emerald Azzurra, Sam's luxurious home away from home for 15 days. With a maximum of just 100 guests, it had all the vibes of a private super yacht. For the ultimate wow factor Sam suggests booking the Owner's Suite, which has over 100 square metres of cruising comfort. The other suites onboard are also bound to impress, with 5-star hotel room inclusions and an ever-changing view of the Med!
Each day of the cruise delivered a new port to discover and Amorgos was next on the itinerary. The quiet, picturesque island is home to an ancient monastery clinging to the cliff face. Walking off all that great Greek food, Sam tackled the 350 steps up to the monastery and was rewarded with amazing views. The resident monks served a shot of psimeni raki, a herbal liqueur and sweets called loukoumi, which is believed to help recharge you after the demanding climb!
From Amorgos, Emerald Azzurra sailed east to Rhodes. The seaside town of Lindos has a beautifully preserved acropolis dating back to the 4th century BC. Sam spent the morning relaxing on the sheltered beach at St Paul's Bay, where you can get drinks delivered to your shaded lounge, followed by lunch at Mythos All-day restaurant. The roof-top terrace was the perfect place to soak in the views and enjoy the specialty dish of delicious wood oven, slow cooked kleftiko lamb.
The magic of Greece might be in its myths and legends, however it's the ancient history, culture, scenery, food and people that will leave you mesmerized and fulfilled.
