Surprise Asian country sees huge 150 per cent surge in bookings by Aussies
Aussies have some big travel plans coming up.
And interestingly enough, we all seem to have our eye on one country in particular.
According to Expedia data for accommodation bookings in the next six months, Aussies are looking to travel to a number of cities across the globe.
But one country appeared four times in the top ten of trending international destinations.
Read on to see where we're heading.
10. Vanuatu
While Australians have always loved the South Pacific, Vanuatu has seen a huge increase in visitor numbers.
People are drawn to the beaches, the lush nature, the friendly locals and the great all-round vibes.
Plus, it's a short flight from Australia and is an ideal family-friendly holiday destination.
9. Hokkaido, Japan
As Japan's ski season kicks off in December, Sapporo offers powdery snow, hot springs and a place to escape the Aussie summer heat.
Qantas is launching direct flights from Sydney to Hokkaido in mid-December, boosting accessibility to top ski resorts like Niseko.
Ramen Alley in Sapporo is a must-visit for foodies, and a great way to refuel after a day in the snow.
Compared to Zermatt in Switzerland, Sapporo offers a similar experience for almost a third of the price at $185 a night vs $650 a night in Zermatt.
8. Christchurch, New Zealand
Christchurch offers easy access to scenic landscapes, nature-based experiences, and renowned wine regions.
It's a great place to kick off an exploration of NZ's South Island, and there's no better time to explore than summer.
7. Colombo, Sri Lanka
Beaches and surf in the south, tea‑country train rides and wildlife safaris make Sri Lanka a great mix of adventure and relaxation, with Colombo the main entry point.
Searches for accommodation in Sri Lanka are up 40 per cent, according to Expedia.
A solid exchange rate and one-stop flight via Singapore or Kuala Lumpur make it easy for Aussies to visit the 'Pearl of the Indian Ocean'.
6. Guangzhou, China
A rising culinary and cultural hub, with a rich history, Guangzhou is gaining traction with Aussies, especially with the increased flights with China Southern out of Sydney and Brisbane from mid-December this year.
