The Sydney hotel that's in the perfect location for a fun getaway

If you had to pinpoint the ideal hotel location in Sydney on a map, you'd pretty much point exactly to Hotel Indigo Sydney Potts Point.

The chic boutique hotel is tucked away behind Sydney's iconic Coca-Cola sign, and could not be better situated.

From the sweeping city and harbour views to the sleek lobby where guests can select vinyl records to play on the turntable, Hotel Indigo has made a name for itself on the Sydney hotel scene since it opened a few months back.

The Potts Point hotel is designed to complement the neighbourhood. The 105 boldly designed rooms and suites have murals, neon lights, and artistic nods to Kings Cross' legendary cabaret and drag scene.

The rooms

Try to nab a room on one of the upper floors: from my balcony, I could see the CBD skyline, Harbour Bridge and a slice of the water at Rushcutters Bay.

For a city hotel, the rooms are spacious, thanks to a nifty shower/bathroom configuration using frosted glass.

Of course, the most important thing is the bed: I can report that not only is the mattress as comfy as sleeping on a firm cloud, but there are also varying pillow options to choose from.

The hotel TV has Chromecast, making it easy to keep up with your shows while away, a feature that has quickly become a must-have on my hotel room checklist.

The neighbourhood

As a Sydney girl who has recently moved out of the city, I know just how important location can be when choosing a spot to stay in Sydney.

Though first-time visitors may be drawn to the CBD, it's actually a pretty boring neighbourhood to stay in - sorry!

Meanwhile, the nightlife in Kings Cross and surrounding Potts Point, Darlinghurst, and Surry Hills has never been better. From hidden cocktail bars to all-you-can-eat Mexican joints, and alleyway restaurants that serve the best ramen you've ever tried, Hotel Indigo is right smack-bang in the middle of it all.

Plus, it's just a short 15-minute walk into the CBD for all your sightseeing needs - or jump on a train at Kings Cross station down the road.

The hotel is also right next to a Coles and Woolworths, if you're like me, and like to stock up on lollies to keep in your room for snack emergencies.

The food

The hotel is also home to new casual French-Japanese restaurant and cocktail bar, Luc-San by Luke Mangan, a cosy laneway establishment that's perfectly suited for a date night or a few rounds of drinks and snacks before a night on the town.

My main recommendation is to come hungry. It's the place where you'll want to order a bunch of dishes to share, as everything sounds so good. The mushroom skewers, soba noodle salad, agedashi tofu, and brussels sprouts were all stand-outs.

Plus, with $12 cocktails from 4pm til 6pm, you'd be mad not to swing by. The bar menu also caters to non-drinkers, with a mean non-alcoholic yuzu margarita on the list that tasted just like the real thing.

Breakfast is also on the menu at Hotel Indigo, courtesy of their lobby cafe. You have the option of the buffet - featuring fresh fruit, pastries, cereal, and more - or ordering something off the a la carte menu. Though I love a buffet, the temptation to order a fresh-cooked brekky and take it back up to my room with a barista coffee was too much to resist.

Pet owners rejoice - the Indigo is also pet-friendly, so there's no need to worry about leaving your precious fur babies at home while you travel.

So whether you're booking yourself a little staycation in the city, or you're travelling to Sydney for a long weekend, there's no better place to situate yourself than Hotel Indigo.
