The island escapes Aussie travellers have set their sights on (that aren't Bali or Fiji)
It's no secret Aussies absolutely love an island escape.
And while places like Bali and Fiji continue to be high on our radar, other tropical destinations are set to take off in the next 12 months.
New data has revealed Samoa and Cebu in the Philippines, are two holiday spots that are firmly in our sights for travel in 2026.

According to insights from Paylater Travel both destinations have seen a big jump in bookings compared to last year, which experts believe signals a shift in what travellers are looking for from an island getaway.
Aussies are now prioritising accessibility, as well as authentic connection and cultural immersion, and Samoa is the top destination for that.

In fact, Samoa was Paylater Travel's most-booked destination in 2024, and booking data from 2025 indicates this trend is set to continue and climb.
In 2025, bookings to Samoa are up 21 per cent from 2024, with 4.5 months of the year still to go.

While the pristine beaches and lush volcanic landscapes are a major draw, the data also shows another of the primary drivers is travel for visits to family and friends who may live there.
Affordability is also firmly in Samoa's corner.
According to Skyscanner's annual Travel Trends 2026 Report it is one of the best value destinations for next year.
Samoa's capital Apia, known for its colonial architecture, vibrant markets, and lush coastal beauty, has seen a 17 per cent drop in flight costs year on year.

While Samoa's popularity has been steadily climbing over the past few years, Cebu in the Philippines has also emerged as a key growth destination.
Paylater Travel's data showed a 15 per cent increase in flight bookings already logged for the first half of 2026, compared to 2025.
Cebu offers a great mix of affordability, unique cuisine, and pristine waters, making it a compelling option for travellers seeking an undiscovered paradise.
Jetstar is also launching a new direct flight service from Brisbane to Cebu, which is set to take off in December 2025, and will only make it easier for Aussies to plan a trip there for the next year.

The fact that island holidays remain a major priority for travellers all comes down to the type of getaway people want.
And according to Hilton's 2026 Trends Report the number one motivation to travel for leisure in 2026 is "to rest and recharge" (56 per cent).
Where better to rest and recharge than lying on white sand while gazing out at turquoise waters?
Other priorities include spending time in nature (37 per cent), improving mental health (36 per cent), and spoiling ourselves with "me time" (20 per cent) - more things we can gain from a tropical getaway.
