Australian airport voted to have the world's 'most scenic' landing
New research has revealed the most beautiful views you can see on holiday, before you've even touched down.
From dramatic mountains to sparkling cityscapes, a plane landing is a traveller's first picturesque view at the start of a long-awaited trip.
A study by travel insurer AllClear analysed which airports around the world have the best views for passengers as they land.
And one stunning Aussie spot made the list. Read on to see which one.
10. Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, Hawaii
Hawaii was straight in at number ten, with dramatic views of the volcanic landscape captured from plane windows.
9. Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport, Caribbean
Landing in Saba, in the Netherlands Antilles offers picturesque views of lush green hills peppered with colourful homes and tranquil beaches.
8. Paro, Bhutan
The runway of Paro Airport in Bhutan is set in the midst of the Himalayas, which creates both a beautiful and exhilarating landing.
7. Innsbruck Airport, Austria
Flying into Innsbruck Airport in Austria offers dramatic views of the Alps.
6. London City Airport, UK
Land at London City Airport, in the east of the UK city, for the best views of the buzzing capital.
5. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
In fifth place was Rio de Janeiro, with plane passengers able to take in landmarks like Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain on arrival.
4. Pitkin County, USA
Pitkin County Airport in Aspen offers passengers the chance to see the Rocky Mountains as they land.
3. Funchal Airport, Portugal
The famously challenging descent into Funchal Airport in Madeira came in third place.
The landing is made difficult due to often high winds, a tricky right-hand turn and the high mountains and ocean surrounding the infamously short runway. But it's this scenery that makes it such a beautiful arrival.
2. Queenstown Airport, New Zealand
The second most beautiful airport landing is at Queenstown Airport in New Zealand.
Passengers descend between towering snow-capped mountains and over Lake Wakatipu, making it the perfect introduction to the Kiwi scenery.
