Virgin Australia reveals most loved onboard plane snack

It seems we are a simple bunch when it comes to our snack of choice while in the air.

Despite everything that's on offer, Virgin Australia has revealed the airline's most popular onboard snack is in fact the trusty cheese and cracker combo.

In fact, the tasty treat is so popular the airline says it is serving on average 50,000 packets each month (2024 year to date average).

That's over 1,500 packets a day.

It comes as Virgin unveiled its brand-new Business Class menu alongside 12 new additions to the airline's Economy Class buy onboard menu, one of the biggest updates to its onboard food and beverage menu in five years.

Among this is the airline's biggest selection of new Economy buy onboard menu items, as well as a selection of value items for flyers wanting to snack mid-flight.

Given the popularity of the cheese and cracker staple, its no surprise it's getting an upgrade as well with the introduction of artisan mature-aged cheese and crackers.

More substantial items available for purchase include ham and cheese sourdough toasties, chicken and sun-dried tomato pesto wraps, and chicken salad sourdough sandwiches.

And for those with a sweet tooth, the airline has also added Pascall Jet Plane lollies to the menu.

Economy Class customers on longer routes to and from Perth or on select international flights will also be able to indulge in hot dishes, including pesto pasta and Penang chicken curry, curated by The St. Food Co.

The complimentary service, which includes tea and coffee on most flights over 55 minutes, will also continue.

Meanwhile, highlights of the new Business Class menu include a range of modern dishes inspired by Japanese, Indian, Mexican, Italian and western cuisine, providing a variety for different tastes.

All menu selections in Business Class will have vegetarian options, including some vegan and low gluten dishes, with the Economy menu featuring 15 vegetarian and vegan options, as well as three gluten-free choices.

Guests of Virgin Australia's extra leg room seats, Economy X, will also have access to the airline's new buy onboard Economy menu available as of this week.
