Aussie beach named 'most popular' in the world in new ranking
Australia is home to some of the most stunning stretches of sand, but it seems international travellers still love a classic.
A new study has looked at which beaches are the most popular across the globe.
The team at Betway Casino analysed social data from Instagram and TikTok, along with Google search volume, to reveal the world's most popular beaches.
Here are the top 10.
10. Playa de Muro, Spain
Kicking things off in 10th place is the Spanish beach Playa de Muro. Despite having less traction on social media sites, it is the topic of over 2.4 million annual searches on Google.
9. Copacabana, Brazil
Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro lands in ninth place with 369,000 posts on Instagram and an annual search volume of over 800,000.
8. Nissi Beach, Cyprus
Nissi Beach in Cyprus ranks in eighth place. The beach stretches for 500 metres and the water is clean enough for the beach to have been awarded the blue flag designation.
The European beach has been tagged in 250,000 Instagram posts and is searched over 1.6 million times a year.
7. Ipanema Beach, Brazil
Ipanema Beach, another famous Rio de Janeiro beach, is located between Leblon and Arpoador.
It is known for its stylish atmosphere and the song 'The Girl from Ipanema', contributing to 700,000-plus annual searches.
4. Nha Trang, Vietnam
In fourth place is Nha Trang Beach in Vietnam. The beach has been tagged in 154,000 Instagram posts.
3. Waikiki Beach, Hawaii
Rounding out the top three is Waikīkī Beach in Hawaii. Waikīkī Beach is one of six beaches in the district and is famous due to Duke Kahanamoku, the father of modern surfing, learned and taught people how to surf on the Waikiki break.
The beach has amassed 1 million posts under the hashtag #waikikibeach on Instagram and 32,000 on TikTok.
2. Patong Beach, Thailand
In second place is Patong Beach in Phuket, Thailand. Famous for its lively nightlife and 1.8-mile stretch of sand, Patong Beach has been tagged in 681,000 posts on Instagram and 56,900 posts on TikTok.
It is also searched 4.4 million times a year, showcasing its global appeal.
1. Bondi Beach, Australia
Ranking in first place is Bondi Beach, one of Australia's most famous tourist destinations, with over 8 million annual searches.
On Instagram, #bondibeach has been tagged 1.9 million times, while TikTok boasts 57,500 posts.
