'Don't do that': Aussie's warning after $1000 travel roaming bill
An Aussie DJ has warned travellers after being billed $1000 for using her mobile at an overseas airport.
Beks, who says she is a DJ and performer, said she was in Dubai for three hours when she made the expensive mistake.
She posted a video explaining how the four minute scroll on TikTok cost her $1000.

"4 mins of baby sloth videos for the same price as a months rent WHAT!!'" she said on Tiktok.
She said she signed into the free Wi-Fi at Dubai airport.
But she wasn't connected for long.
"It must have dropped out when I went to the bathroom or something. I didn't notice and I was scrolling on TikTok for four minutes," she said.

"I got a message from Vodafone saying I was over a thousand dollars beyond my monthly limit, and then they blocked my phone."

She said she contacted Vodafone immediately, and was told there was nothing they could do.
"A thousand dollars. Don't do that," she said.
In a later video she claimed she spoke to Vodafone and negotiated.
She claimed they told her she could only pay $5 towards the bill.

Getting a local SIM card is an easy way to limit your mobile bill and save money when travelling.
You should also contact your mobile provider before you go to check roaming charges, and activate them to use your phone overseas.
You can also ask your provider to send you alerts when you hit a certain cost.
If you are relying on free Wi-Fi, make sure you mobile data is turned off and your phone is on airplane mode.
