A plane that lands on a runway and transforms swiftly into a train? It could potentially become a thing in the not-too-distant future.

The switch from plane to public transport can often add hours to a commute, but an engineering company may have a solution to save travellers precious time.

Akka Technologies' "Link & Fly" design is intended to make air travel more accessible and convenient. As seen in the company's mock-up pitch above, the futuristic design sees passengers board a train-like tube at a local station.

During the ride to the airport, everyone would have their retinas scanned for security. Wings are then attached to the tube for take-off, before the vessel takes flight.
