'Kicked off at the next stop': Cruise workers reveal number one rule for crew
If you've ever wondered what goes on behind closed doors for the crew members on a cruise ship, you might be disappointed by how PG it is.
Contrary to what The Love Boat may have led us to believe, cruise ship workers are definitely not allowed to get too friendly with passengers.
A former cruise employee has revealed that if they do, they could even get kicked off the ship.

In a Reddit Q&A, a former cruise ship entertainer has opened up about their life on board.
He worked for six years as a drummer, later earning officer status on the onboard medical team.

When he was asked, "is it true the best pick-up line is, 'I have my own cabin'?", he confirmed that cruise workers are expressly forbidden from hooking up with guests.
"If you're caught with a guest, you will be terminated in whatever port you're in," he said. "Even with guest privileges."
As an entertainer, the Redditor had guest privileges on board, meaning he could dine in any restaurant and use every space that guests have access to.

A similar story was shared by a professional magician who worked for cruise lines. Luke Osey shared a viral video to TikTok last year responding to a fan who'd asked what employees do if passengers come on to them.
"If there was even a hint of suspicion that you were talking to or sleeping with a guest, you'd be disembarked immediately," Luke said.
"My contract would be terminated, I'd be kicked off at the next stop pretty much."

He said that he's wary of guests who are extra friendly.
"If you notice that a guest is starting to flirt with you, obviously you talk to them for a bit, but you're not going to flirt back because you know it would be leading them on."
The magician said he took this rule so seriously that he'd even stop colleagues from getting close with guests.
"I'd say, 'Hey, mate, that's not the best idea, you could get called out for this,'" he said in the video.
"A little bit of fun is not worth your contract," he added.

There are other rules that cruise ship workers have to follow - and so do their family members.
A woman who lives on a cruise ship with her chief engineer husband, and has the privileges of both a guest and crew, opened up about life on board in a TikTok video.
She revealed that though they can play bingo with other guests, they're not allowed to win.
She also said the same rule applies to the onboard casino.
"I am not allowed to sit at a slot machine and play my heart until I win because it would look a little weird if I, as the wife of the chief staff engineer, won like a big jackpot. So I am not allowed to gamble on the ship," she said in another video.
