Australia has been crowned the best outdoor destination in the world
When thinking of Australia, many holidaymakers instantly dream about tropical beaches, unique reefs, and the isolated outback.
And now it's official.
The nation has been named the best outdoor destination in the world, according to a new study.

The research, by outdoor wear company KÜHL, saw Australia come out on top in what it has dubbed the Global Outdoor Destination Index
The firm weighed up 183 countries using 12 key metrics across four categories: adventure opportunities, landscape richness, nature preservation, and comfort and peace.

All that number-crunching led them to deciding what we could have already told them - Australia is the best place in the world for everything outside.
"Travellers in 2025 want to engage with nature actively and responsibly," Oded Gross, from KÜHL, said.
"Australia's leadership in environmental preservation, combined with its natural beauty and adventure infrastructure, positions it perfectly for this growing demand."

It noted the nation boasts 12 UNESCO Natural World Heritage Sites, and says 45 per cent of the marine and coastal areas and 22 per cent of the land are under some kind of protection.
"This commitment to conservation makes it a haven for wildlife and pristine natural landscapes," they said.
Research noted it's a pretty peaceful place, too, perfect for a chilled holiday.
"Adventure seekers will find plenty to do, as Australia is in the global top 20 for adventure opportunities and landscape richness," they said.

"From hiking the Blue Mountains to diving the Great Barrier Reef or camping under vast Outback skies, there's something for every type of explorer."
Next on the list came the USA.
It was followed by New Zealand, another well-known hotspot for outdoor attractions.
"Known for safety and peace New Zealand offers nearly 1,000 outdoor activities and protects 33 per cent of its land and 30 per cent of its marine areas, making it a key destination for outdoor enthusiasts," survey bosses said.
Other places which appear on the list include Canada, Mexico, and Brazil.
