When it comes to long flights, there's a big difference between budget and premium airlines - so you want to know exactly what you're in for.

A study from travel insurance provider MoneySuperMarket has crunched the data to determine the best airlines for long-haul flights.

Singapore Airlines came out on top, thanks to its five-star service, comfortable cabins, and highly commended food and beverage service.

Of all the airlines in the study, it also received the highest score for value for money.

Last year, Singapore Airlines swept Finder's 2025 Customer Satisfaction Awards, rated as the "most loved" airline, also scoring top marks for value, reliability, and comfort.

Qatar Airways came in second as the best airline for long-haul travel, scoring high for seat comfort, entertainment, and onboard food.

Qatar Airways was crowned the top airline in the world by Skytrax in 2025. It's the ninth time the airline has received the honour in the 26-year history of the awards, which are known as the Oscars of the aviation world.

Cathay Pacific ranked third for its long-haul offering, with one of the highest scores for reliability.

This ranking is based on passenger reviews and performance metrics across 26 carriers, including their timeliness, chance of cancellation, and value for money, along with ratings on seat comfort, in-flight entertainment, and food and beverages, all pulled from sites like TrustPilot, TripAdvisor, AirlineQuality, and Skytrax.

The rankings highlight comfort, service, and value for money – factors that can make or break flights longer than 10 hours.

"For passengers with specific needs, like being pregnant, travelling for business, or being a nervous flyer, choosing the right airline can significantly improve the journey," Alicia Hempsted, a travel insurance expert at MoneySuperMarket, told Travel + Leisure.

Tui and Emirates rounded out the top five, with Aussie airline Qantas coming in sixth place.

On board, lighting is meticulously designed to help combat jet lag, based on the modelling of circadian rhythms. The sequences will then be tailored to help passengers adjust to their destination time zone before they set foot on the ground.

There will also be a purpose-built Wellbeing Zone, featuring integrated stretch handles, guided on-screen exercise programs, a hydration station and a range of refreshments.

The first of 12 new aircraft is set for delivery in late 2026, with the first commercial Project Sunrise services starting in the first half of 2027.
