'Largest production' ever filmed at iconic Aussie holiday destination
The land my be wild and beautiful but there is one special truth about a holiday in the Northern Territory that has nothing to do with the surroundings.
On a recent visit, 9Travel's David Whitehill discovered how important meeting and speaking to locals can be to a holiday in Australia's Red Centre.
And it's those connections plus the stunning landscape (worthy of a movie backdrop) that makes this one of the best places to holiday in Australia.

"Travel is about more than just seeing a new place here," Dave shares. "Every step brings you closer to something bigger, a connection to land, to the people and to yourself."
And the stories shared by locals and guides from the area shine a light on the unmatched culture and history you can discover.
"I have a personal connection with the gorge," Russell Cadell, Tour Operator Nitmiluk Tours, says.
"This is my family's country, my grandmother was a Darwin woman. So just to be here, working here, continuing that family legacy, it means so much to me."

When you're visiting the NT yourself, Dave says you can't help but feel connected to the land.
"As you explore, you become part of the story," he shares.
The Territory is home to many significant Aboriginal sites, such as Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and Kakadu National Park, where you can witness ancient rock art galleries and learn about traditional ways of life.

And one of the best ways to do this is by listening to local stories from guide - a guide like Tasha Nadji, a traditional owner from the Bunitj clan.
"My grandfather and some of our ancestors have got some amazing paintings in this area," she shares.
Tasha says most of the artwork can still be used today as a guide to the country.
The Northern Territory's landscape is so unique it is also the perfect setting for movie makers, with plenty of iconic scenes filmed in the region.

One of the most recent and largest productions ever filmed here is Territory. First airing on Netflix in October some of the Top End locations to visit from the show include Berry Springs Nature Park, a spring-fed natural swimming pools surrounded by lush forest less than one hour from Darwin.
Hawk Dreaming Wilderness Lodge is in the heart of Kakadu National Park and offers exclusive access to Cannon Hill rock art sites.
The show also features spectacular gorges dissected by waterfalls. Winding rivers which sustain life for mammoth mobs of cattle and monsoonal forests.
