These are the best places for whale watching in Australia
It's affectionally know as the humpback highway - and it's preparing for rush hour.
As the seasons change, tens of thousands of humpback whales are on their way to travel 10,000 kilometres along Australia's coastline.
Stretching from Antarctica to the warm waters of the Great Barrier Reef near Queensland whales travel breed, calve and rest.
The vast swathe of coast is renowned to have some of the best whale watching opportunities in the world from May until November.

Here are the best places to go.
Bruny Island, Tasmania
This popular spot in Tasmania offers excellent watching, with humpback and southern right whales as well as Orcas frequently spotted in the surrounding waters.
You can get close on a Pennicott Wilderness Journeys cruise, from SeaLink ferry from the Kettering terminal.
The best times are May to July and September to November.

Magnetic Island, Queensland
Magnetic Island and the city of Townsville is prime whale watching property from mid-July to August.
Whale watching cruises off tours where humpbacks are often seen breaching close to the vessel.
In Queensland's northern waters, whale encounters are often slower and more intimate, with mothers and calves resting and building strength.
K'gari, Queensland
Staying in Queensland and K'gari and Hervey Bay's Western waters become a nursery for humpback whales and their calves from July to October.
These calm, sheltered waters offer some of the most intimate whale encounters in the world, with opportunities to witness playful calf behaviour and relaxed whale interactions.

North Stradbroke Island, Queensland
You can spot whales close to Brisbane at North Stradbroke Island from June to November.
Catch a ferry to over and head to Point Lookout on North Stradbroke Island offers some of Australia's best land-based whale watching.

Sydney Harbour, New South Wales
The famous Sydney Harbour becomes a whale watching haven from May to November
Captain Cook Cruises offers a two and a half-hour whale watching cruise from Circular Quay.
Or head to either North or South Head to catch a glimpse of them passing from the land.
You may even see them from beaches along the coast such as Cronull
Kangaroo Island, South Australia
Kangaroo Island near Adelaide in South Australia is famous for wildlife.
From May to September Southern right whales can often be spotted along the southern coastline, with some of the best viewing opportunities found around Penneshaw, Cape Willoughby, Pennington Bay, Vivonne Bay and Kingscote.

Rottnest Island, Western Australia
Rottnest Island, the holiday favourite near Perth is a good place to spot Humpback and southern right whales can be spotted during their southbound migration
That's between September and November.
You may see them from ferries, small boats or even from land.
