10 Aussie destinations travellers couldn't get enough of in 2025
While exploring other countries is amazing, there's nothing quite like travelling in your own backyard.
Especially when that backyard is a country as diverse and exciting as ours.
But there are some destinations that consistently stand out among travellers as the best of the best.
Google has unveiled its 'Year in Search 2025' and these were the ten most popular places for Aussies.
10. Sydney
You'd be hard-pressed to find too many people who live in Australia and don't have a photo of the Sydney Harbour Bridge on their phone.
So it's little surprise Sydney kicks off the top 10.
9. Townsville
From epic hikes on Hinchinbrook Island and jet‑skiing past Magnetic Island, to charming artisan markets, quirky coffee spots, and boutique wine experiences, Townsville really has something to wow every Aussie traveller.
8. Sunshine Coast
We do love our beaches and the Sunshine Coast has plenty of stunners. From Noosa to Mooloolaba you'll find blue water, sand and sun. Plus hip restaurants and exciting new accommodation offerings in 2026.
7. Brisbane
At number seven is Brisbane, the gateway for many embarking on a Queensland adventure, but also host to bunch of great sporting events.
6. Alice Springs
While Uluru is of course a major drawcard to the red centre, Aussie travellers have also shown plenty of interest in Alice Springs. Visit the Simpsons Gap in the West MacDonnell Ranges and if you're into hiking, the Larapinta Trail is a hero experience.
5. Gold Coast
Short of Schoolies flocking there in November, the Gold Coast is a consistent favourite among families, couples, friends groups all looking for a relatively affordable beach holiday with something on offer for everyone.
4. Adelaide
Making a play for new favourite city in 2025, Adelaide came in at number four on the list only just missing out on a podium finish. Think the Adelaide Fringe, arts, creativity, sports, wine and rolling hills.
3. Tasmania
The real star of the show was Tasmania, which seemed to be on everyone's travel plans in 2025. In fact, according to Tourism Tasmania, 89 per cent of Aussies who visit the island state say they intend to return.
Expedia Group even named Hobart as one of the ten global cities on their 2026 'Destinations of the Year' list.
2. Lord Howe island
Despite Tassie's growing popularity, Aussies can't get past an island getaway and Lord Howe Island in NSW was a firm favourite this past year.
