The most popular winter snow destinations in Australia

After a polar blast brought the polar blast and icy temperatures to parts of south-east Australia, you might have found yourself thinking about a snowy escape.

New search data from Booking.com has revealed Aussies are indeed already leaning into the cold weather, with alpine destinations seeing strong interest ahead of the ski season.

In fact, domestic snow destinations are all rising in accommodation search rankings year-on-year. But which spot is looking like it will be the most popular?

Jindabyne and Thredbo, both in NSW are leading the way for a snow getaway in 2026 placing 10th and 19th in the overall list of most popular destinations.

Both have seen year and year increases, climbing one and two spots in the list respectively.

Falls Creek in Victoria was next on the list, also climbing two spots overall compared to last year.

Back in NSW, Perisher landed at number 23, followed by Mount Buller (25) and Mount Hotham (29) in Victoria.

Jindabyne, or Jindy, is considered a budget-friendly base when wanting a snow holiday as it is 30 minutes from both Thredbo and Perisher ski resorts.

Despite snow holidays gaining popularity, Queensland remains the most popular overall destination for Aussie travellers during winter.

The Gold Coast came in at number one on the list, followed by Sydney in second and Melbourne in third.

Cairns and Port Douglas rounded out the top five.
