Nick Kyrgios has dropped a bomb on the tennis world, announcing he will play doubles at the Brisbane International with none other than Novak Djokovic

Kyrgios made the announcement with a post to his Instagram stories on Monday night.

Re-sharing a photo of the pair walking onto the court ahead of their 2022 Wimbledon final, Kyrgios captioned it: "Doubles at Brisbane. See y'all there".

The original photo was posted at the end of 2022, where Kyrgios teased they were planning to team up, suggesting the move may have been in the works for some time.

Kyrgios has played only one professional match in two years due to a series of injuries.

He was confirmed earlier this month as a starter in the Australian Open, where he will enter with a protected ranking of 21, meaning he could even be seeded despite his lack of court time.

The pair were the tournament's headline act in the singles draw, but will now pull even more of a crowd for the doubles competition.

Djokovic rarely plays doubles, but himself battled injury niggles and might be looking to increase his court time in the leadup to the Australian Open.

Once bitter rivals, the announcement adds another layer to their growing bromance.

Kyrgios will also reprise his doubles partnership with Thanasi Kokkinakis at the Australian Open, which they won together in 2022.

Kokkinakis will not play in Brisbane, but is a wildcard for the Adelaide International, which immediately follows the Brisbane event. Kyrgios is not playing singles in Adelaide, but it's not clear if the pair can team up in doubles.

Qualifying for the Brisbane International begins December 27, with main draw action from December 29.
