'Be proud': Nick Kyrgios takes fresh swipe at tennis giants over failed drug tests

As he continues to prepare for his on-court return, Nick Kyrgios has taken a fresh swipe at stars Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner.

Kyrgios has been among the most vocal critics of the relatively light sanctions dished out to the pair after returning positive drug tests.

Swiatek was provisionally suspended from September 22 until October 4. She was world No.1 when the sample was taken in August.

Kyrgios was also critical of the way tennis authorities handled mens No.1 Jannik Sinner's failed test earlier this year.

"Feels good getting these consecutive days training in the bank man," Kyrgios posted on X, formerly Twitter.

"Wrist reconstruction and back out here ... without failing any drug tests.

"Be proud Kygs doing it the right way."

The 29-year-old said the sport was "cooked" after news of Swiatek's ban broke, and was furious the International Tennis Integrity Agency had accepted her explanation.

Swiatek argued the positive test was unintentional and caused by the contamination of a non-prescription medication, melatonin, that she had been taking for issues with jet lag and sleeping.

"The excuse that we can all use is that we didn't know," Kyrgios said.

"Simply didn't know. Professionals at the highest level of sport can now just say 'we didn't know'."

Sinner's failed test also came as the result of a drug sold over-the-counter in Italy.

Kyrgios is on the comeback trail after battling a series of injuries since losing to Novak Djokovic in the 2022 Wimbledon final.

The pair will headline a world-class lineup in the Brisbane International, which begins on December 29, before he turns his focus to the Australian Open.
