Aussie swimming stars Alexa Leary, Callum Simpson win gold at world championships
Australian Paralympic stars Alexa Leary and Callum Simpson hauled in gold at the world para-swimming championships in Singapore on Wednesday night.
And although Leary fell just short of her world record in the women's 100m freestyle S9, Simpson shattered the Oceanian record in the men's 400m freestyle S8.
Leary clocked 59.19 seconds in the final to beat second place by almost three seconds, but finished 0.30 of a second adrift of her world record.

Simpson, meanwhile, triumphed in a gripping race against Italy's Alberto Amodeo and Ukraine's Eduard Horodianyn, touching in 57.15 seconds to edge out his two closest rivals by less than a second.

Leary said she was "a bit disappointed" after falling short of her world record, but "really proud" to claim gold.
"That is the biggest that I wanted," Leary said.
"I've still got more left in the tank and now I'm even more determined to beat my 50m world record later this week. Just you wait."
Simpson let out a mighty roar and slapped the water in celebration of his record-breaking win.
The 18-year-old then admitted he was stunned with the swim he put on the board.

"I was definitely not expecting to go that fast and break the Oceania record, or for the race to be that quick," Simpson said.
"It feels amazing to hold onto my title from last year.
"Plus, to put in a race like that against such good competitors and see my hard work pay off, it means the world."
