A scrappy Wallabies outfit put a forgettable first half behind them to run out convincing 45-10 winners over Uruguay at the Rugby World Cup.

The Wallabies had to play half of the opening 40 minutes with 14 men as Adam Coleman and Lukhan Salakaia-Loto were put in the sin bin for high tackles.

Dane Haylett-Petty  and Tevita Kuridrani scored doubles as Australia dominated the second half with four tries at Oita Stadium, to outclass their South American opponents.

Fly-half Christian Lealiifano was brought off the field to have a head knock assessed.

Kuridrani was named player of the match.

Former England international Stuart Barnes lashed the Wallabies for what he described as an 'awful' performance.

"In the first half, Australia were awful," Barnes told Fox Sports.

"Awful in execution and average in game plan.

"The fact that it was 65-3 the last time these two teams met, it was something of a moral victory for Uruguay. It was a chaotic game and Australia was never comfortable."

After 18 phases of play it finally happens, the South American score.

The Wallabies add another score as Haylett-Petty touches down on the right flank.

Genia sends a grubber kick through the line and Haylett-Petty catches Inciarte on his heels.

Australia broke quickly from a five-metre scrum with Dempsey making a nice run towards the line before Genia offloads to Slipper in space and the prop touches down.

Milestone moment sees his teammates swamp the prop at the tryline.

Genia touches down in the left corner to record Australia's fifth try of the game.

Dempsey is the architect of the score as he bursts through two tackles before offloading to his scrum-half with an inside pass for the score.

Lealiifano converts.

Wallabies 33-3

Taniela Tupou comes on as a sub and shows the Wallabies which way to go.

Makes a couple of huge runs - one nearly saw him score with defenders hanging off but he dropped the ball and Uruguay gets the scrum.

Not long after Kuridrani scores his second try of the match with a nice set play from the backline sees the outside centre cruise through a massive hole.

No doubt Tupou has brought some energy to the team as Lealiifano scores the conversion.

Australia 26-3

Aussies definitely look more ominous in the second half, hitting the line with purpose.

However that all comes undone through a falcon.

Uruguay hasn't been the walkover everybody expected. Wallabies might have gone into this match a bit down mentally from where they need to be.

Even though Australia holds the lead 19-3, there won't be much for Michael Cheika to be happy about at the break

South Americans pounced through Thomas Inciate but it is overruled because the side's No.8 was offside.

Uruguay thought they had a try but the TMO said to call it back.

Australia sloppy at the breakdown as they fail to protect the ball and Diana scoops it up and offloads back to Inciarte but the eye in the sky said no.

They were then given a penalty on the stroke of halftime - one last chance to put on some points - but no cigar after 7 phases.

Wallabies have their third try of the game as Tevita Kuridrani touches down after the Aussies fell to another yellow card.

Beale and Petaia combine again which could be promising for Cheika.

Nice work down the left flank which sees Kuridrani beat the last defender with ease and places the ball without any problems over the line.
