Rugby set to break record at Barcelona's stadium
The final of French rugby's Top 14 is set to break the world record attendance for a club rugby match after it was moved to Barcelona's home ground, the Nou Camp, because Stade de France is being used for Euro 2016.
The final will break the previous record by nearly 14,000. The Premiership clash between Saracens and Harlequins at Wembley in 2015 drew a crowd of 84,068.
There is a chance the gigantic crowd could watch three Wallabies. Quade Cooper, Matt Giteau and Drew Mitchell play for star-studded Toulon, who are running second in the Top 14, five points behind Clermont, with six weeks of the regular season remaining before the playoffs.
The 109,874 who attended Stadium Australia were treated to 'the Test match of the century'. All Blacks winger Jonah Lomu broke Wallaby hearts with a last-minute try to secure a 39-35 victory.
Australian football's record attendance occurred at the 1970 VFL grand final between Carlton and Collingwood. A crowd of 121,696 piled into the MCG to watch Alex Jesaulenko take the mark of the century as the Blues overcame a record 44-point halftime deficit to beat arch-rivals Collingwood. By comparison, only 99,683 watched the 2015 decider (pictured).
The record attendance for a professional American football game was set at Super Bowl XIV where 103,985 packed into the Rose Bowl in LA to watch the Pittsburgh Stelers beat the home-town Rams.
That figure is dwarfed by the 115,109 that attended Michigan Stadium in 2013 to watch the Wolverines beat Notre Dame in a college football clash.
