'Dominant force': Waratahs bully Force in statement win

Sam Worthington

The resurgent NSW Waratahs have set their sights on becoming a "dominant force" in Super Rugby Pacific just one season after collecting the dreaded wooden spoon.

The Waratahs pack overpowered the Western Force in a 34-10 win in Sydney on Saturday night, with two-try star Max Jorgensen applying the classy polish.

Under new coach Dan McKellar - who has the luxury of a Melbourne Rebels bolstered squad - the Waratahs are 3-0 and second on the ladder despite having already had a bye week.

Signing off from Saturday night coverage

Sam Worthington

Thanks for joining us on a memorable day and night of Super Rugby Pacific.

If the Reds beat the Crusaders in Christchurch tomorrow it will be just the second time in Super Rugby history that a New Zealand has failed to win a game.

It happened in round 12, 2000 when NZ teams lost the following five games.

Brumbies 17, Crusaders 12

Waratahs 22, Highlanders 15

Bulls 47, Hurricanes 33

Reds 33, Blues 26

Cats 53, Chiefs 3

FULLTIME: Waratahs 34, Force 10

Sam Worthington

A little bit of late cheer for the Force as prop Ryan Coxon grinds his way over the line for a consolation try.

But it's very much the Waratahs' night as NSW go 3-0 with a 34-10 win in Sydney.

That puts the Waratahs second on the ladder behind only the 3-1 Chiefs.

Next up is a trip to Brisbane to tackle the also unbeaten Reds in what should be a beauty.

The Force will lick their wounds before hosting the Drua in Perth.

Kellaway strikes as Force throw in the towel

Sam Worthington

Waratahs fullback Andrew Kellaway now strikes as the Force throw in the towel.

It was a good line from Kellaway but a poor tackle attempt from his Wallabies teammate Harry Potter - usually a very sturdy defender.

NSW lead 34-5 after 38 minutes - a very impressive score against Simon Cron's improved squad.

Waratahs put final nail in Force coffin

Sam Worthington

The Waratahs have put the final nail in the Force's coffin as replacement Felix Kalapu drives over for a determined try.

NSW lead 29-5 after 71 minutes.

It hasn't been pretty - Max Jorgensen aside - but Dan McKellar will be more than happy to win ugly and go 3-0.

This will left the Waratahs into second place on the ladder after finishing with the wooden spoon last season.

Jorgensen turns provider for Lancaster

Sam Worthington

And now Max Jorgensen turns provider for Darby Lancaster!

Jorgensen threw the final pass for his fellow winger who had a lot of work to do down the left hand sideline.

But the one-cap Wallabies flier finished smartly through the tackle attempts of Test players Ben Donaldson and Carlo Tizzano for what shapes as a real hammer blow against the visitors.

The Waratahs lead 22-5 after 54 minutes and the Force need to chase the game.

It was Lancaster's first try for NSW after moving north from the Rebels.

Jorgensen hat-trick scrubbed out by TMO

Sam Worthington

What looked to be a brilliant Max Jorgensen hat-trick has been rightly scrubbed out by the TMO.

Jorgensen chipped and regathered down the sideline to dot down but replays confirmed Andrew Kellaway's pop pass had gone forward.

The Waratahs lead remains at 15-5 after 50 minutes.

HALFTIME: Waratahs 15, Force 5

Sam Worthington

The Waratahs lead the Force 15-5 at halftime of a brutal derby.

"The Tahs have won the big moments - and none more so than Max Jorgensen," Morgan Turinui says on Stan Sport.

"He's a finisher."

Allana Ferguson goes one better.

"He's a freakish player," she says.

Waratahs stars dropping like flies

Sam Worthington

Waratahs captain Jake Gordon has been put on ice.

The halfback is sitting on the sidelines getting medical attention as Jack Grant fires the passes instead.

It's 15-5 NSW after 39 minutes as Langi Gleeson and Taniela Tupou also get some medical attention.

In form No.8 Gleeson has limped off and is replaced by Leafi Talataina.

Jorgensen flies for brilliant double

Sam Worthington

Waratahs winger Max Jorgensen has just flown down the sideline for a brilliant double.

Force flanker Nick Champion de Crespigny pushed a pass and Jorgensen read it perfectly to swoop for an intercept and score.

NSW lead 15-5 after 35 minutes.
