Good things come every 12 years for Stephen Larkham.

The maestro was in his playmaking pomp in 2001 when the ACT Brumbies, en route to a first Super Rugby title, humiliated the Blues 35-7 at Eden Park.

And he was on the sidelines as an assistant coach in 2013 when the Canberra club beat the Blues 20-13 at New Zealand's rugby fortress.

They've done it!

The Brumbies have stunned the Blues 21-20 for their first win at Eden Park since 2013.

"Their defence was superb. A thoroughly deserved win for the men from Canberra," Mils Muliaina says.

That's a pretty good job interview for Stephen Larkham too, as he bids to succeed Joe Schmidt as the next Wallabies coach.

A gripping finish awaits.

Brumbies youngster crosses for fine try

Brumbies youngster Declan Meredith has crossed for a fine try as the visitors show plenty of resilience to turn defence into attack.

They hammered away patiently before eventually going wide with Tom Wright throwing the assist to No.10 Meredith on the left wing.

The Blues lead 20-18 after 50 minutes.

"This is all out trench warfare here now," commentator Tony Johnson says.

Plummer replaces injured Barrett at halftime

Some big news at Eden Park as Harry Plummer replaces Beauden Barrett at halftime.

"It doesn't look particularly good," Blues coach Vern Cotter says.

"He's injured his hand and is unable to keep on playing."

Plummer is a very capable replacement but that is obviously a big blow.

HALFTIME: Blues 20, Brumbies 10

The Brumbies coaching staff will be disappointed with that finish as Declan Meredith - who otherwise had a good half - wastes attacking ball by kicking it into touch.

The Blues lead 20-10 at the break.

It's not over for the Brumbies but the Blues look in the mood to put on a show.

Ioane breaks drought as Blues turn on style

Rieko Ioane has broken his drought as the Blues turn on the style at Eden Park.

After a Cam Christie lineout steal, the Blues went to work and Ioane crossed for his 50th Super Rugby try.

His last came way back in May 2023.

The Blues lead 20-10 after 39 minutes and the Brumbies need halftime.
