Tom Wright's season over with ACL injury as Wallabies injury woes continue

Tom Wright's season is over after the worst was confirmed following the Wallabies' loss to the Springboks.

Wright left the field inside the opening minutes in Cape Town and had his hands on his head when he lay on the sideline.

"He's bitterly disappointed," Tim Horan said when Wright was off the field.

It's since been confirmed that Wright injured his ACL.

"Scans have confirmed fullback Tom Wright suffered an ACL injury in last night's Test against South Africa in Cape Town," Rugby Australia said in a statement.

"He will return home with the group today to see specialists this week."

In the fourth minute, Wright tried to skip around the Springboks' defence before throwing a risky, overhead pass to Joseph Aukuso-Suaalii.

That pass was dropped, and as Wright tried to get a hold of the ball, he fell to the ground in discomfort.

Wallabies medical staff attended to his left knee, with the fullback eventually taken from the field.

Earlier in the first minute, Wright had caught a kick and was tackled by Marco van Staden. Van Staden held on to his leg and bent it forward before Wright was pinned for not releasing.

The fullback managed to return to his feet immediately and appeared to be fine before he suffered the major injury three minutes later.

It was a nightmare night for injuries, with Nic Wright and Aukuso-Suaalii both failing to finish the game with a concussion.

Harry Wilson, James Slipper and Dylan Pietsch were all injured in the opening match against South Africa, too.
