Pacquiao dismantles US rival to retain title
Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao comprehensively dismantled American Chris Algieri to retain his WBO welterweight title at the Cotai Arena in Macau on Sunday.
Algieri, the unbeaten WBO light welterweight champion, was outclassed from the start with Pacquiao dropping him to the canvas six times during the 12 rounds.
Pacquiao won an overwhelming unanimous decision: 119-103, 119-103, 120-102 on the judges' cards in the southern Chinese city.
Pacquiao landed punches at will throughout the fight.
The quick Algieri tried to run, slip and hide from the onslaught
Pacquiao turned it on in the sixth, smashing Algieri with a devastating left.
The American only just beat the count.
He dropped to his knee a moments later as blows rained in from all angles
Algieri was knocked down twice more in the ninth and 10th.
One shot left sending him sprawling across the ring.
Highlights were few and far between for Algieri.
