'Kills me I have to wait four more years': Josh Giddey in tears after Boomers' cutthroat loss
A devastated Josh Giddey has tearfully opened up about the Boomers' overtime loss to Serbia that knocked the side out of the Olympics.
Giddey was one of Australia's best throughout their Paris 2024 tilt and was his usual, dangerous self against the European powerhouses, scoring freely early as the Boomers raced to a 24-lead before hitting a clutch three late in the fourth quarter.
But it wasn't enough, as reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokic led Serbia to a win with some huge plays on both ends of the court down the stretch, leaving Giddey and the rest of his side to rue letting such a big lead slip.

"We put ourselves in a great position to win that game and we come up short like that in overtime... it's heartbreaking," he told Nine with tears in his eyes following the loss.
"And it kills me that I have to wait four more years for another chance at this.
"But man, I'm so proud of this group. I love this team. Our coaches, our fans, they deserved a lot better than this."

Giddey said the loss, which denied the Boomers a shot at a second-straight Olympic medal, would fuel the side's campaign in Los Angeles in 2028.
"Every possession matters and it can go so quick," he said.
"We play four games and that's it, you've got to wait four years.
"I don't really know how to sum it up now, it's so raw and soon after the game.
"I just love this team, and I believed we had the group to go all the way... this feeling sucks and it's going to hurt, but it's going to build us.
"And we'll be back in LA."
