Valentino Guseli's success on the slopes in Canada has continued into another season, with the Australian star claiming his first World Cup gold after his lay-off with injury.

The 20-year-old from the South Coast of NSW returned to the World Cup circuit last month after overcoming a knee injury and finished in third in the halfpipe in Colorado.

But his goal of collecting his first World Cup gold in almost two years did not take long to become a reality, with an impressive run in Calgary landing him on top of the podium.

A score of 87.75 could not be matched or defeated by any others in the field, with the Australian star holding onto his top qualifying spot to ensure a smooth run to victory.

Guseli performed a backside alley-oop 360 into a Cab double cork 1080, followed by a frontside 1260 into a backside 720 before closing with a switch backside 900 to win.

Swiss star David Hableutzel finished in second after Guseli's run, recording a 80.00.

"It was great, it was the most fun run I have had on this pipe all week, so happy to end my time in this pipe off like that," Guseli said.

"I am stoked, Calgary has always treated me very nicely, and I was really happy to be back in Canada after a two-year hiatus.

"Feels good to be back on the top step and looking forward to pushing for more.

"There are so many Aussies in Canada, so I really feel the Aussie love here, but also everyone in Canada is so nice, so thank you."

Guseli's efforts came hours after Australia's Indra Brown won gold in the freeski halfpipe.
