Phil Gould pleads with Taane Milne to move positions after Fiji's demolition job against the Cook Islands

Phil Gould believes off contract centre Taane Milne should make a dramatic switch to the front row after his strong performance for Fiji against Cook Islands.

The Bati were way too strong for their rivals, claiming a 56-6 win.

Milne, playing second-row, backed up a strong showing for Fiji against PNG last week and caught the eye of Gould, who believes he should change position.

"I think these last two weeks have been good for Taane Milne ... he's off contract at the moment and you'd do a lot worse than to pick him up as a versatile middle forward," he said on Nine's coverage.

"I reckon he could really do something in that position at the back end of his career."

Asked whether that could be at Gould's club, the Bulldogs, the general manager didn't promise much.

"No, not at the moment," he said.

Milne finished the game against the Cook Islands with 230 run metres from 16 runs and had one line break.

The 29-year-old is yet to have signed a new deal with South Sydney with his contract ending this year after debuting at the club in 2021.

Milne was one of the major stars for Fiji on Saturday night (AEDT), while Michael Jennings was also influential with three tries.

Maika Sivo and Semi Valemei scored doubles too.

Rua Ngatikaura was the only tryscorer for the Cook Islands in the 10th minute but from there Fiji ran in 10 unanswered tries.
