Freddy tips Cowboys' miserable start to the season to continue against Penrith in Bathurst
The representative season is rapidly approaching in the NRL but there’s still plenty of rounds to get through before then as far as our footy tipsters go for Wide World of Sports.
Gus has taken a two-point lead at the top of the table but with only eight points separating first and last it’s still anybody’s competition.
Freddy had a tough round last week but he’s confident of bouncing back after predicting that North Queensland’s miserable season will continue against Penrith in Bathurst, live and free on Nine on Friday night from 7.30pm.
Last year’s grand finalists have managed only two wins this season to be anchored near the bottom of the table but Freddy believes the Panthers will be too strong for them despite having their own problems after losing fullback Dylan Edwards to a season-ending injury.
“I’m going to have to back the Panthers,” Fittler said.
“I think this is one of those real tricky games.
“I wouldn’t want to look at the Cowboys side, it’s just littered with class, they’re just having a bit of a terrible start to the season.
“The Panthers need to set their standard early, this was a game that turned their season around (in Townsville).
“It was part because of James Maloney’s game up there and part because of their defence.”
Freddy also tipped South Sydney to beat Newcastle at McDonald Jones Stadium, claiming halfback Adam Reynolds is close to recapturing his best form.
Reynolds was once viewed as a potential No.7 for the Blues but has admitted himself he hasn’t been playing his best after an injury-plagued start to 2018.
“This will be an interesting game but I feel like Souths could rebound and this could be an Adam Reynolds classic,” Fittler said.
“He needs to insert himself into this South Sydney team and maybe this is the game. Jack Cogger and Connor Watson are a couple of inexperienced halves there.
“This could be the game that turns his season around and really takes Souths to the next level.”
