Cameron Murray cleared for State of Origin opener after dangerous tackle

South Sydney captain Cameron Murray has escaped sanction after he was placed on report during his side's Magic Round loss to the Dolphins on Friday night.

Murray and former Queensland Maroons flyer Selwyn Cobbo were both put on report in moments that could have had ramifications for both sides’ respective State of Origin campaigns.

Murray, an automatic selection for Laurie Daley's Blues, was placed on report in the 25th minute after crashing into the legs of Dolphins back-rower Kulikefu Finefeuiaki as two of his teammates went high.

Dolphins fullback Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, a star of the Maroons' 2025 series triumph, took exception to Murray's tackle, pushing him in the head as he towered over him.

"I'm not sure; we'll have to wait and see," Murray said when asked about being placed on report.

Asked how disappointed he'd be if he was ruled out, he said: "I'd be sad about it, for sure. I love playing in the blue jersey, so any chance I get, I'll go with both hands."

In the 52nd minute, Cobbo found himself in trouble after performing a lifting tackle on South Sydney centre Campbell Graham.

On Saturday morning, neither Murray nor Cobbo were sanctioned by the MRC, although Graham was fined $750 for tripping Herbie Farnworth.

From the earlier Friday game, Connor Tracey was fined the same amount for a careless high tackle on Ronaldo Mulitalo.

Meanwhile, there are concerns for Latrell Mitchell's fitness ahead of Origin I after the boom centre struggled off the field with seven minutes remaining in the Rabbitohs-Dolphins game.

The Blues and Maroons squads will be named on Monday.
