Lachlan Galvin denied, has pants pulled down in fitting end to Dogs demolition

Lachlan Galvin was stopped just short of the try line after racing away in the dying minutes in a moment that brought a woeful Bulldogs performance to a close in fitting fashion.

Cronulla's Hohepa Puru and Samuel Stonestreet combined for a superb defensive effort in the opening game of Magic Round, dragging down the 20-year-old by his shorts to ensure the Sharks won the game 38-16.

Galvin lost the ball and ended up with his buttocks on show as Cronulla consigned Canterbury to their fifth consecutive defeat.

Puru also scored a try early in the first half at Suncorp Stadium, prompting Andrew Voss to dub the embarrassing defence display that allowed it the "worst moment" of Canterbury's season.

The Dogs unfolded in front of the Brisbane crowd as a floundering defensive effort allowed Blayke Brailey's replacement to dive over the line with ease.

"That's the worst moment of the Bulldogs' season right there," Voss said on Fox League.

"Resilience has left the building when it comes to the Bulldogs. Resilience has dropped off the charts."

Greg Alexander echoed the sentiment after the Dogs found themselves trailing by 24 points.

"They cannot defend their line. What has happened to the Bulldogs' steely, gritty defensive line?" Alexander said.

"It is in tatters."

The Dogs looked completely lost against a dominant Cronulla side, failing to find any rhythm or momentum.

The onslaught began just five minutes in when Braydon Trindall crossed for the first try, before Ronaldo Mulitalo scored his 101st career try.

The four-pointer proved even worse for Canterbury as the Bunker spotted a late hit from Connor Tracey to Mulitalo's face as the try was scored, handing the Sharks a penalty.

Cronulla led 30-6 at half-time, but the Bulldogs were the first to fire after the break with a dash down the field from skipper Stephen Crichton.

Mulitalo made it two on return after plucking the ball from a skyward kick from Nicho Hynes, testing out his knee in his first game of the season.

The Bulldogs play Melbourne Storm next Friday night and the Sharks will play Manly on May 29 after their bye next week.
