Dragons rebuild gathers momentum as Damien Cook inks two-year Super League deal

The Dragons' rebuild is continuing to gather steam, with veteran hooker and co-captain Damien Cook set to depart the club for England.

9News' Danny Weidler reports the former Blues hooker has signed a two-year deal with the Castleford Tigers in the Super League.

The Dragons earlier in the year announced a pause in extension negotiations as it battled a horror run of form.

Cook is the second high profile player confirmed to be leaving the Dragons at the end of the year, with Eels bound Jaydn Su'A also headed to the exit.

In a season of poor performances, Cook has regularly been a stand-out at hooker.

He had a mortgage on the Blues No.9 jersey, playing every Origin in the role between 2018-2022 with three series victories.

Castleford, meanwhile, are faring little better than the Dragons. They sit 13th on the ladder in the 14-team Super League, with a 3-7 record.

They're also -176 on points difference, and have conceded 50 in their last two games. They were belted 72-6 by the Wolves in March.

Cook has to-date made 34 of his 248 NRL appearances in the Red V, across two stints.
