Andrew Johns unfazed for Dragons despite loss of Origin representative

Andrew Johns doesn't believe the Dragons should be too concerned after Origin representative Jaydn Su'A chose to leave the club at the end of the season.

Su'A had a player option in his contract to extend for 2027 but has opted to exit instead amid the club's shocking run of form.

News Corp is reporting the second-rower will join the Parramatta Eels to continue Jason Ryles' reshaping of the club's roster.

Dragons chief executive officer Tim Watsford confirmed the news in a statement.

"Jaydn has been an important part of our squad and has made a valued contribution to the club during his time in the Red V," he said.

"We thank Jaydn for his contribution to the Dragons and wish him and his family all the best for the future."

Despite the news coming at a bad time for the Dragons during a terrible run of form, Johns isn't worried.

"They've got a lot of exciting young forwards coming through, you'd be worried if it was a world class half," he said on Nine's Sunday Footy Show.

"He's been a really good player but I think they've got a lot of local juniors coming through, especially in the forwards, who can compensate."

Billy Slater believes Parramatta's coach Jason Ryles would've been the deciding factor.

"I think he's probably looking at what Jason Ryles has done with a couple of back-rowers at the Parramatta Eels. Kelma Tuilagi and Kitione Kautoga, they're two guys that have really devleoped under Jason Ryles."

Su'A joined the club in 2022 and has played 76 matches, winning the 2024 Dragons Medal as the NRL side's player of the year.

Considering Su'A's friendship with incoming Dragons signing and former Souths teammate Keaon Koloamatangi, the decision to leave points to a club in desperate need of success.

A freeze on rentention has recently been implemented by the club, however Su'A wasn't applicable to that situation since the contract option was in his favour.

Shane Flanagan's men haven't won a match this season which makes for 10-straight losses after a poor end to 2025.

Flanagan's future has become a major talking point, along with the performance of Dragons staff. General manager Ben Haran has been at the club for over a decade and in his current position for six years.

The club's board are reportedly set for a meeting on Tuesday to address the side's form.
