'Very underrated player': Phil Gould confirms deal on the table for Bulldogs fullback

Bulldogs general manager Phil Gould has confirmed Connor Tracey has an offer in front of him after reports he's set to re-sign for two years.

The news around Tracey was first revealed in The Sydney Morning Herald on Sunday after Gould's Chinese meal meeting at Canterbury Leagues Club.

On Nine's 100% Footy, Gould said he's just awaiting the signature from Tracey.

"The offer's gone out in the email. We've been talking to him for some months, there was never any doubts about us re-signing him," he said.

"We just had Vegas to get through and had a big preparation for the game down at Canberra. We caught up with his wife and manager last week.

"I sent an offer out on Friday so I expect to hear back very shortly."

Cameron Ciraldo was also on the show and delivered high praise for Tracey.

"He's put a lot of hard work into both sides of his game ... he's a very underrated player but we love having him at our club," he said.

"He's trained outstanding this whole pre-season. He's a guy who had a lot of injuries early on so there was a couple of years there when he didn't have pre-seasons."

Tracey has been the fullback for the majority of Ciraldo's tenure after moving to the club in 2024. The coach declared the position is Tracey's to keep.

"The position's his right now," he said.

"He's playing so well and while ever he's playing that well he's going to make every post a winner. A lot of things can happen in footy down the track. I love that we've got competition for spots, I love that we've got our reserve grade pushing for spots in first grade but the way Connor Tracey's started the year, that position is his."

The 29-year-old has overcome a horror injury history during his time with South Sydney and Cronulla to become a mainstay at fullback for the Dogs.

Since arriving two years ago, Tracey has played 49 games in the blue and white jersey, becoming one of Ciraldo's most reliable and consistent players.

He had been linked as a possible Perth Bears signing ahead of their inaugural 2027 season, but looks certain to remain loyal and stay at Belmore.

Tracey has been brilliant at the back for Canterbury in the first three games, averaging 230 run metres per game and breaking 10 tackles.

His performance in round three against the Canberra Raiders earned him enormous praise, scoring a try before stopping another with a try-saving tackle on Ethan Sanders.

Canterbury lost their first game of the year on Saturday afternoon, going down to a wounded Knights outfit 24-16 at Accor Stadium.
