'Nup': Maguire denies Walsh was carrying an injury in loss to Titans

Reece Walsh appeared to be carrying an injury during Brisbane’s 28-23 loss to Gold Coast on Saturday night but coach Michael Maguire claimed he was not.

There were a couple of glaring moments during the Suncorp Stadium match in which the superstar fullback appeared to be affected physically, as the Broncos crashed to a fifth consecutive defeat.

Titans flyer Phillip Sami beat Walsh with ease to score a brilliant solo try in the 38th minute, with the last man in defence seemingly failing to lay a finger on the winger.

And he again appeared to be worse for wear when Titans fullback Keano Kini chipped and regathered in the 77th minute, before racing away to score an incredible match-winning try.

On the contrary, Walsh churned out 254 run metres and broke out of 10 tackles.

“No, not really,” Maguire said when asked if Walsh was playing injured.

“He’s fine to get up and about.

“I mean, you’ve got other moments in the game and he’s coming up with some pretty spectacular plays.

“... It was literally a ‘moment’ game today. There were moments there where it could have rocked either way.”

Asked again later in the press conference if Walsh was playing injured, Maguire simply replied: “Nup.”

Walsh had a heated argument with teammate Jack Gosiewski after a try scored by Titans winger Phillip Sami late in the first half.

Queensland State of Origin coach Billy Slater made the stunning decision to not pick Walsh for game one.

He may decide to pick the Clive Churchill Medallist on his six-man bench for the June 17 clash in Melbourne.
