Craig Bellamy delivers a 'rocket' to Melbourne in comeback but Trent Loiero on report for dangerous hit

Trent Loiero – fresh off a State of Origin victory – has escaped sanction for a late hit on Jackson Hastings in the 55th minute of the Storm's win over the Knights in Newcastle.

Loiero's Storm emerged victorious in Newcastle, winning 32-14 despite Cameron Munster not backing up and Ryan Papenhuyzen withdrawn late.

Returning recruit Dom Young scored the first try for the Knights to make it 4-2 after an early penalty goal for Melbourne.

Young had his second in the 28th minute before Eli Katoa crossed before half time.

Loiero then continued a brilliant week, scoring first after the break. Kane Bradley extended the lead with his own four-pointer before Loiero scored again to lead 22-8.

Bradley made it another double for the Storm in the 62nd minute.

Newcastle gave themselves a snirf at 26-14 following Fletcher Hunt's try but it was Melbourne tying up the match with another double to Katoa.

Post-match, Jahrome Hughes revealed his team copped a stern spray from Craig Bellamy after going down 8-6 at half time.

"I thought we played really well, that second half and first half we probably weren't there, I probably wasn't there and got a rocket from Craig at half time," he told Fox League.

"I thought the boys did well in that second half."

Melbourne have now won six in a row, and are keeping the heat on Canberra at the top of the ladder.

Next week, the Storm play Manly on Saturday while the Knights are up against the Warriors on Sunday.
