Lachlan Ilias' ill-fated stint at the Dragons is close to coming to an end.

Gold Coast are showing interest in Ilias and a deal may be struck in coming days.

The 25-year-old joined the Red V on a two-year deal at the start of this season and played the opening seven games.

But with coach Shane Flanagan clearly preferring his son Kyle in the halves, Ilias was dropped and never got another look in despite playing outstanding football in NSW Cup.

The former South Sydney Rabbitohs halfback led the Dragons into the Cup grand final last month, a game they lost to the Warriors 30-12.

But even in such a heavy defeat, Ilias played well, laying on both his team's tries.

The struggling Titans have had problems in the halfback spot in recent seasons and are looking for some experience to cover for the retirement of veteran Kieran Foran.

Gold Coast officials were keen for Foran to join the coaching staff but in a further blow, Manly announced on Wednesday they had acquired Foran to assist Anthony Seibold.
