'Looks like that's squashed': Braith Anasta addresses Cameron Munster's future as Perth Bears cop blow

Cameron Munster's agent Braith Anasta has cleared up the situation around his star client after links to the Perth Bears, confirming he was "allowed" to talk to the club depending on the situation around Jonah Pezet.

Munster was viewed as a possible marquee for the franchise, but that move has been quashed now as Pezet prepares to sign a two-club deal with Parramatta and Brisbane.

It means Munster and Jahrome Hughes will stay as the halves for Melbourne but Anasta did state on BTFU's 180 Podcast that his client was "allowed to talk to Perth if we wanted to, given if Jonah stayed".

"We didn't know if Jonah was going to leave Melbourne until the last couple of days so I was trying to entertain Perth still for Cameron and then because Jonah stayed, that won't happen," he said.

"I don't think it will happen, Melbourne has said to us no, we're keeping Cameron and now we won't allow him to negotiate with Perth, and that's fair enough.

"Whether that changes over the next 12 months, I'm not sure, but right now it looks like that's squashed."

Anasta's comments come on the same day Munster described speculation as "crazy".

"Yeah, that's a crazy one. I'm still contracted to the Storm until the end of 2027, so I can't actually negotiate with another club until the end of next year, so I don't know where all this hype is about me leaving and talking about me going to Perth and going to R360. It's a bit of a [beat]-up," he told The Sydney Morning Herald.

"I don't know where it's coming from. I've been speaking to Braith about it and it's not on his end as management, so I don't know where it's coming from."

Munster did confirm he was asked by the Storm if he would play fullback in the coming years.

A switch there would have allowed Pezet to move into the halves while it meant Ryan Papenhuyzen would have certainly moved on at the end of 2026.

It's an intriguing roster ploy though considering Sualauvi Fa'alogo is on contract and the next fullback in waiting.

However with Pezet moving on and Papenhuyzen in the sights of R360, the No.1 jersey could be Fa'alogo's to lose.
