Parramatta Eels captain and halfback Mitchell Moses has backed his team's pursuit of Jonah Pezet after news broke of a peculiar contract agreement.

Pezet will reportedly join the Eels for 2026 before moving on to the Brisbane Broncos.

The Melbourne half appears to be a stop-gap solution for Parramatta as the club waits for younger players to develop.

Moses was all for the scheme.

"If he wants to join us, he'd be a great addition. He was playing some really good footy at Melbourne towards the end of the year," Moses told 9news Sydney.

"He's got a footy head on him it looks like and directs the boys around the field pretty well so we'll have to see what happens but I think he'd be a great addition to our club."

Moses is currently with the Kangaroos squad in London and has been named 20th man for the first Ashes Test.

Kangaroos teammate Patrick Carrigan will welcome Pezet at the Broncos in 2027 if the contract goes through.

The forward believes Pezet has had the ideal tutelage.

"The prospect of having someone like Jonah at the club I think (is great), he's a tremendous player, he's been in a great system and watching him learn off guys like Cam Munster and Jahrome Hughes speaks for itself," he said.

"I think there might be a bit in the works that he's going to have 12 months under Mitchell Moses as well, and I know we're getting a quality player there and adds a lot of depth to our roster."
