Broncos superstar Reece Walsh had a mixed night that included an injury scare and a moment he'd love to forget after his costly golden point kick off helped the Warriors to victory.

In the second minute, Walsh was captured limping and couldn't get to the ball on the full with winger Selwyn Cobbo taking the hit-up instead.

The fullback immediately pointed to his knee and was attended to by a trainer.

"Walsh is in trouble ... he's uncomfortable," Mick Ennis said on Fox League.

Walsh was involved in the match early with the kick off shallower than usual as the fullback had to take the hit-up and was smashed by Kurt Capewell.

"Maybe a tactical ploy there from the Warriors," Ennis said.

Despite the concern for Walsh with the injury, he was able to play on and return to his usual speed.

The Broncos scored the first points in Auckland when Billy Walter, who was moved to starting hooker, dummied close to the line and fooled the Warriors' defence to score.

Leka Halasima then hit back for the home side before half time to make it 6-6 at the break.

After the first half, it was a nightmare for the Broncos as their rivals went on an onslaught.

Edward Kosi was first to score in the corner. In the 60th minute, a horrible pass from Ben Hunt led to a turnover with Kurt Capewell almost running 50 metres to score. He was tackled before the line by Kobe Hetherington but passed inside to Luke Metcalf who scored.

Marata Niukore then made it 18-6 moments later before Metcalf hit the post with a shocking conversion attempt.

Prior to the Metcalf and Niukore tries, Walsh had shifted to the wing at one stage for Selwyn Cobbo as he struggled with his knee.

"He can't move laterally, some real concern," Ennis said.

But the Broncos weren't done as Walsh shifted back to fullback and inspired his team in attack.

Jesse Arthars scored in the corner before Walsh had his own try as the Warriors blew an opportunity to ground the ball in-goal.

With the scores locked up at 18-18, Metcalf then had a field goal attempt charged down with three minutes left before he missed his next kick amid pressure from Payne Haas.

The Broncos then had attacking territory with a minute left but a fumble at hooker meant Hunt couldn't pass it to Adam Reynolds with the match moving into extra time.

Chaos continued when Walsh, despite kicking off into the wind, sent the ball dead.

Metcalf then chose to take a penalty goal and slotted it.

"Fantastic composure and calmness by Luke," Mal Meninga said post-match.
