'That is my home': Ex-Rooster Luke Keary reveals next career move after rejecting Newcastle Knights coaching role

Luke Keary may have called time on his playing career with the Sydney Roosters last year, but that will not be enough to see him depart the club for good.

The premiership winner is happily enjoying life in retirement and has been spotted supporting the Australian team in their campaign around England for the Ashes.

The green and gold jersey is one the former playmaker is familiar with, having been one of the many jumpers he dreamed he would be able to don when he was a child.

Reflecting on his career now that it is over, Keary admits he can't believe his success, particularly the fact that he ended his football journey as a three-time title winner.

"If you told me that when I came out of school and had no contract, knocking around in Burleigh, I would have said you were silly," Keary told 9News Sydney.

"I was really, not upset but sad leaving the Roosters last year.

"It is cool to look back and see how far I came. All the people that played a role in my career, I am really grateful for."

Keary has wasted no time making the next move in his professional career since stepping into retirement, setting his sights on a job that is still in the football sphere.

However, the 33-year-old is not just taking any job that emerges in the football world, having rejected an opportunity that take on a coaching role at the Knights.

Despite being predicted by manager to become a coach-in-waiting, Keary was not interested in taking on the offer from the Newcastle Knights.

Instead, he is going to stay put in Sydney and help his former team.

"I'm going to go back to the Roosters and have a small role with them," he said.

"I can't wait. That is my home."

Nine's Danny Weidler informed Keary that he "gives off future coach vibes", to which Keary was quick to reply.

"Definitely not," he laughed.

"I want to stay involved ... definitely in coaching.

"I want to do a little bit with the younger guys and pass a bit of knowledge on.

"I'm really interested in the corporate side, too. I've obviously done a bit of university stuff, so I'm interested in the business and finance side of things."
