Wayne Bennett doubles down on golden point hatred after Dolphins' miracle

Wayne Bennett's disdain for golden point has remained, despite the Dolphins winning outside of regular time against the Warriors.

Sean O'Sullivan was the man for the club, slotting a two-point field goal in the 82nd minute to seal a 34-32 victory.

In his post-match press conference, Bennett was in fine form and straight off the bat was asked how his heart is.

"It's pretty good, there is a football god though," he replied.

"We needed a bit of help in the end."

The Dolphins coach went on to praise O'Sullivan who had only entered the game just after half time.

"He had a lot of time on the interchange bench to think about it, didn't he? It was a great moment and I'm just pleased I got him on," he said.

"I just knew he'd bring something. We were in that situation where both teams are trying to score on one set of six and I just thought him being a halfback, five-eighth, even though I put him into hooker when he went on… I just knew I had to get him on the field.

"We got a bit of luck today that has probably been missing in those situations, that was our third golden point game this year and we lost the other two but we got this one."

Despite the relief, Bennett didn't shy away from his hatred for the extra time concept, something he's loathed for a long time.

"Yeah, I do," Bennett said when asked if he still hates golden point.

"If you got a point for a draw, we'd be one point in front of where we are now.

"The disappointing thing for me with it is that both teams put a lot of effort in today and when you get to that place, both teams have played with a lot of effort and there's no reward (for both teams) and it's based on a dropout really because 90 per cent of the overtime scores are from dropouts.

"I know it excites the fans but I also know losing teams aren't excited."
