Troubled talent Taylan May departing Panthers immediately amid assault charges

Penrith has sent troubled outside back Taylan May packing from the club effectively immediately.

May, 22, is facing charges over allegations he assaulted his partner.

The Panthers said on Friday May is "seeking other opportunities" in a statement confirming the club has removed him.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports the club and player reached "a confidential settlement".

May is currently banned from playing rugby league under the NRL's no-fault stand-down policy.

The policy is used with the league's discretion to suspend players who are facing charges that carry potential long jail terms.

The Panthers had served May two separate breach notices, and ultimately the board could not be convinced to keep him on the books.

Prior to the assault charges, May was reprimanded for a social media video featuring him in a car which was speeding in a school zone.

May is accused of punching his partner in the face and leg. He has pleaded not guilty to stalking and to three counts of domestic violence.

The case will be heard in March next year.

May played 30 games for the Panthers and won the 2022 grand final, before injury ruined his 2023 season.
