Latrell Mitchell issued NRL breach notice after white substance photo

The NRL has issued a breach notice to Latrell Mitchell, alleging a breach of the league's code of conduct.

According to Nine's Danny Weidler, Mitchell can expect to receive a one-match ban and a fine as punishment. However, the exact penalty is yet to be confirmed by the NRL.

"The NRL say that Latrell [Mitchel]l is guilty of bringing the game into disrepute because of that image that did surface," Weidler told 9News Sydney.

"The NRL issued a media release where they said he was receiving a breach notice but at no point did they announce a punishment. My understanding is Latrell Mitchell will get a one-game ban and a fine of less than $25,000.

"The NRL have no way of proving what took place in that photo butt is worth noting that Latrell Mitchell did not take, distribute, or put the photo on social media."

Mitchell had been under investigation from the NRL integrity unit after a photo emerged on social media of the Rabbitohs fullback at a table with what appears to be a white substance.

"The particulars of the breach notice are that Mitchell featured in imagery, which emerged publicly on 12 August 2024, which depicted him acting in a manner which has brought the game into disrepute," the NRL statement said.

Mitchell's adviser Matt Rose spoke out on Tuesday after the integrity unit was informed of the photo.

Wide World of Sports is not suggesting that the white substance is an illicit drug.

His club South Sydney Rabbitohs confirmed the photo's existence when it first emerged.

"The South Sydney Rabbitohs have been made aware of a photograph circulating through social media of Latrell Mitchell following a personal appearance in Dubbo on the weekend," the statement read.

"The club has informed the NRL integrity unit about the photograph.

"The Rabbitohs will be making no further comment at this stage."

Rose said that under NRL rules Mitchell was unable to comment.

"Latrell's doing OK. At this stage under the NRL rules he can't make any comment, the integrity unit are currently investigating," he told TV reporters.

"Latrell will make a comment after that's finished."

The 27-year-old has five business days to respond to the breach notice.

Mitchell was in Dubbo attending a coaching clinic and hosted an event as a guest at the Pastoral Hotel. He also attended games, posed for photos and signed autographs on Sunday at Apex Oval.

Mitchell hasn't played rugby league since July when he suffered a Lisfranc injury to his foot.
