'One of a kind': Bill Harrigan, Col Pearce become first referees inducted into NRL Hall of Fame
Bill Harrigan and Col Pearce will make history as the first referees to be inducted into the NRL Hall of Fame.
Just days after Wayne Bennett and Jack Gibson were announced as the first coaches to earn the honour, two of the game's greatest on-field officials will also be inducted.
Pearce began his refereeing career in the 1940s and officiated over 340 first grade games, including six grand finals and nine Test matches.

After retiring, Pearce moved into a role with the media, commentating games and writing columns for The Sydney Morning Herald before passing away in 2004.
Harrigan remains the most recognisable referee in rugby league history, with his confident personality and demeanour making him a household name.

Across an incredible career, Harrigan holds the record for most first grade games (393), grand finals (10), State of Origin matches (21) and Tests (25).
"When people think of the great referees in this game, it's Col Pearce and Bill Harrigan," ARLC chairman Peter V'landys said in a statement.
"Referees have one of the most difficult jobs in the game, but it's also one of the most important.
"Col was respected by the players and renowned as someone who officiated with the right level of command.
"Bill was one of a kind. He refereed with a confidence which allowed him to have authority over a game. He always had the courage to make the tough call and back his ability.
"This is due recognition of the contributions of Col and Bill, their long and successful service to the game as well as the importance of referees."
11 male players and six female players will be inducted into the Hall of Fame next week.
