'Needs to be revealed': Scott Sattler reluctantly drops update in Ezra Mam situation as ban awaits

Broncos star Ezra Mam has begun working on the tools in a bid to save his NRL career.

The 21-year-old is expected to miss a large chunk of next season after being charged over a motor vehicle accident last month that saw him return a positive drug test.

Mam isn't expected to be sacked by his club, but a lengthy suspension from the NRL and some stern conversations with head coach Michael Maguire are on the horizon.

After spending time in a rehab facility, Mam is now looking to redeem himself and it has started away from the training paddock.

Speaking on SEN Radio, premiership winner Scott Sattler revealed, albeit reluctantly, that the five-eighth is working on a building site as his first major step back towards the field.

"I was apprehensive about talking about this but I think it needs to be revealed," he said.

"I'm not excusing any of the things he did, but for over a week now since leaving rehab, Ezra Mam has been on the tools as a chippie, working on a work site.

"The club believes he needed a reality check of what life really represents, what true Australians have to go through each and every day.

"He's been on the tools learning a trade which is great to hear. He's aware of his actions and how it affected so many people around him."

Dual-international Mat Rogers believes it could be a great way to help Mam long-term.

"Young men make mistakes," he said.

"But if he can understand the damage he's caused, try and right the wrongs through hard work and dedication."

The news regarding Mam comes at the same time the Broncos are set to announce the signing of Ben Hunt on a two-year deal after his release from the Dragons.
