"I've just got to keep working on my game and respect the leaders in the team," he told Nine.

"They've been giving my some good advice. I've been keeping my family close too."

Walsh admitted the support and ability of his coach has also helped him remain composed on the field.

"He expects a lot which is really good," Walsh said.

"He keeps our mindset and focus really good."

The Brisbane Broncos have come out on top in the pouring rain at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.

It was a strong comeback effort by the Dolphins but it wasn't meant to be.

Even through the rain, the Dolphins fans were not going to pack up early and leave their team until the final whistle was heard.

A dangerous tackle by Gehamat Shibaski has opened a chance for the Dolphins to change the state of this game.

Kodi Nikorima was tackled two metres out from the line but he offloads the ball towards Jamayne Isaako in a last-minute attempt to save his team.

Isaako was taken into touch by Adam Reynolds and the fate of the Dolphins in this battle seems to be sealed.

A sensational run by Jake Averillo has narrowed the Broncos lead to 10.

Averillo made light work of the Broncos left-edge defence as he powered almost 100 metres to score.

The score may have decreased but the rain is still hammering down.

There has been some big hits in the final 40.

This time it is Herbie Farnworth who is blindsided in a brutal shot by Brendan Piakura.

"That will send him into next week," Mat Thompson said on Nine.

Andrew Johns said: "Whiplash."

The Dolphins have been gifted back-to-back six agains inside the Broncos 10, posing a strong threat on the tryline.

Still, they have not been able to get over the line.

The experience of the Broncos veteran halfbacks has got the visitors through the tough battle, with the Dolphins yet to make an error.

Patty Carrigan landed a damaging hit on Tom Gilbert to send a clear warning of what the Dolphins can expect if they continue to test the line.

"What a hit," Cameron Smith said on Nine.

"Look at those eyes,' Andrew Johns added.

Some concern over Kurt Donoghoe at the moment for the Dolphins.

The five-eighth was caught with his leg in an awkward position in a tackle that left him in pain down on the turf.

He was quick to jump back to his feet but he was clutching at his calf for a short period of time.

"He's hurt himself there," Andrew Johns said.

"But there is nothing illegal in [the tackle]."

Gehamat Shibasaki opened the scoring in the first half and he's done it again in the second.

A beautiful play by Adam Reynolds slowed the Broncos run towards the left before the quick hands of Reece Walsh found Shibasaki out wide.

"They just burned them for numbers," Darren Lockyer said on Nine.

"What a start to the season Shibasaki has had."

Reynolds missed the kick - his second of the night - and the scores stand 20-6.

No amount of rain is going to stop fans from turning up at the footy!
