Firebrand Bulldogs recruit Tevita Pangai Junior in trouble after double report, as Sharks dominate trial game

Cronulla has won the final trial of the NRL pre-season convincingly, rolling Canterbury 30-6 at PointsBet Stadium.

The Bulldogs looked competitive early but ultimately couldn't keep up with the Sharks when the latter put their foot down.

The Dogs were hampered by some ridiculous decisions by firebrand recruit Tevita Pangai Jr in the first half.

Pangai was reported for a high shot on Sione Katoa, who was lying prone on the ground after having his legs taken out by Josh Addo-Carr.

Soon after that Pangai was reported again, and this time sin-binned as well, for throwing punches at opposition forward Royce Hunt.

"He's hurt his team with that carry-on, Pangai Jr," Cooper Cronk said in commentary.

A positive for the Bulldogs was new five-eighth Matt Burton.

The former Panthers star scored their only try and troubled the Sharks defence with his deft kicking game.

For the Sharks, new recruit Nicho Hynes looked good alongside his new halves partner Braydon Trindall.

Cronulla forward Braden Hamlin-Uele was also reported and sin-binned for hitting Jake Averillo late, but it didn't look too bad on replay.

Sharks veteran Wade Graham limped off the field with an ankle injury.

New Canterbury five-eighth Matt Burton has come off the field after playing 70 minutes in his first appearance for the Dogs.

He was impressive, scoring a try himself and troubling the Sharks with a deft kicking game.

"You saw glimpses of what Burton is going to bring to this side, particularly his kicking game," Cooper Cronk said.

"It's up to Burton to really ice those combinations, because that could be an electric left edge."

Cronulla forward Braden Hamlin-Uele has been sin binned for a late hit on Jaker Averillo.

It wasn't super late, would be surprised if it warrants a suspension.

Canterbury recruit Brent Naden seemed to get one back for the Dogs.

He was put through a hole by fellow recruit Matt Burton, and slammed the ball down over the line.

The try was awarded but the Bunker intervened and ruled an obstruction.

Cronulla has extended the lead through a Ronaldo Mulitalo try.

Mulitalo was switched from wing to centre to start the second half, and struck 13 minutes in to make it a 30-6 scoreline after the Nicho Hynes conversion.

The Bulldogs are struggling to keep up now.

Cronulla player Tom Hazelton has left the field concussed.

He was collected in the head by the boot of Jayden Okunbor, although he appeared to already be concussed before that contact.

Hazleton tackled Okunbor around the legs, and then as he lay on the ground the Bulldogs winger lashed out with his boot in an attempt to get up.

Okunbor's boot accidentally whacked the tackler in the head. He was helped off the field afterwards.

And that's half-time at PointsBet Stadium. Sharks lead 24-6.

The story of the first half has been Tevita Pangai JR beginning his Bulldogs career in much the same way he ended his Broncos one.

He's been reported twice and sin-binned for throwing punches at Royce Hunt. Not a great start to his career at the kennel.

The Sharks halves look good, as does Matt Burton for the Dogs.

Cronulla is starting to run away with the scoreboard, as Tevita Pangai's sin-bin begins to look costly.

Fullback Will Kennedy latched onto a loose ball that was batted backwards by winger Ronaldo Mulitalo.

The Nicho Hynes conversion was successful to make it 24-6 to the Sharks.

Firebrand forward Tevita Pangai Jr has now been reported a second time, and sin binned.

He was earlier reported for a suspect high shot on Sharks winger Sione Katoa.

Now the Bulldogs recruit is in the bin for 10 minutes, for throwing a punch at Royce Hunt.

He threw a closed fist several times, for reasons only known to the former Bronco and Panther.

Not a great start to his Bulldogs career. It seems he has not changed one bit!

Soon after, Hunt scored a try to extend the Sharks lead.

"He's hurt his team with that carry-on, Pangai Jr," Cooper Cronk said.

Cronulla veteran Wade Graham has been ruled out for the rest of the game.

Graham injured his ankle. It's unknown how severe the injury is.
