Jarryd Hayne's trail of destruction: Why the Dally M star is a coach killer
Brian Smith
Parramatta’s longest serving coach refused to pick a young Hayne in first grade, believing his attitude wasn’t good enough. But Smith has one claim to fame, the first in a long line of Hayne coaches to be shown the exit door.
Jason Taylor
Took over as interim coach from Brian Smith in 2006 and one of his first acts was to clear the Hayne Plane for takeoff. Taylor’s first match in charge of the Eels saw a teenaged Hayne make his first grade debut. But despite making the finals in 2006, Taylor left to pursue greener pastures at South Sydney.
Graham Murray
Hayne made his State of Origin debut in 2007, as the Maroons won their second successive series with a 2-1 win. Just a month after the series was done, Murray announced he would step down as coach.
Michael Hagan
Replaced Jason Taylor as Eels coach, and enjoyed a successful 2007 which saw Parramatta come within a game of the grand final, but after missing the finals in 2008 Hagan had enough and decided it was time to hop off the Hayne Plane.
Daniel Anderson
With Hayne in career best form the Eels made the 2009 grand final, with Hayne picking up the Dally M player of the year award. But after Parramatta missed the finals in 2010, Anderson found himself on the scrapheap.
Craig Bellamy
Coached New South Wales to three successive series losses as the Queensland dynasty was in full swing. By 2010, having won just two games from nine, Bellamy was history.
Ricky Stuart (part one)
Oversaw another two New South Wales losses in 2011 and 2012, with the Maroons taking a 2-1 victory in both years. Wouldn't be back for 2013.
Stephen Kearney
The Eels were in freefall by now, picking up just six wins in 2011. By midway through 2012 they were well on the way to taking the wooden spoon, and Kearney found himself axed mid-season.
Brad Arthur
Picked up the pieces of the Eels’ 2012 campaign, finishing a dismal season with three straight losses. With the appointment of Ricky Stuart for 2013, Arthur was told he was no longer required.
